Junior BookPALS, a part of the SAG BookPALS literacy program, teaches students the skills of reading aloud. A BookPALS volunteer reads for several months to a class of students demonstrating the do’s and don’ts of reading aloud. The students practice with each other before trying their hand reading to classes of younger children. Everyone benefits from this program. The older students get to prepare material for the younger students. This is a good chance for below grade level readers to approach material at their own grade level and master it. The younger students look up to their Junior BookPALS role models. The younger students have been heard to say, ”I want to be a BookPAL when I grow up”.
Thank you to 5th grade teacher, Ms. Cambra and BookPAL, Frank Sprague for devoting time and passion to this endeavor.
See what the students had to say about their experience with Junior BookPALS….
