Summer Reading extravaganza!

NY BookPALS ended their special event summer reading sessions last week at Challenge Early Intervention in Brooklyn. Summer Reading FUN!

Volunteers beat the heat today travelling to the YAI Forest Hills, Queens facility. Overall BookPALS volunteers read to 9 different classrooms and over 100 students. “YAI is a network of agencies offering people with intellectual and developmental disabilities a comprehensive range of services across the lifespan” -http://www.yai.org/about/ BookPALS are so happy to be reading at the YAI facilites. BookPALS: MOMA Workshop

BookPALS partnered with MOMA teaching artist Shellyn Rodriguez to discover how to incorporate the visual arts into the read aloud. Volunteers explored the work of Jacob Lawerence, a celebrated African-Amercian modern painter featured at MOMA and the imagery shown in Christopher Meyer’s “WINGS”.
