BookPALS partnered with MOMA teaching artist Shellyn Rodriguez to discover how to incorporate the visual arts into the read aloud. Volunteers explored the work of Jacob Lawerence, a celebrated African-Amercian modern painter featured at MOMA and the imagery shown in Christopher Meyer’s “WINGS”. The year end PencilPALS party at Princeton Elementary was a huge hit! Students got to meet their PencilPALS in person after writing all year long. The event featured a PencilPALS puzzler (students had to guess their PencilPAL from a “lineup”, using a written, physical description), a recitation of the Writer’s Oath, a special sharing of a wordless picture book, and some Storyline Online readings!
