Congratulations on a Fantastic Year!

Las Vegas BookPALS and the Screen Actors Guild Foundation would like to congratulate each of our volunteers who made the 2008-2009 school year so successful. We reached an estimated nine-thousand students through our weekly reading and our numerous special events throughout the year.

We would like to say a special thank you to our long-time weekly volunteers Faye Zwerling, Rick Ginn, Jeff Granstrom, Rose Heeter, Bill Seacrist, and Judy Thomas. Special thanks goes out to Leslie Ortega who donned costume and character as Granny McFanny, the gregarious grandma who lights up author Lewis Kimberly's award-winning story. Thanks also to Bill Badger who played the lead role in many of our assembly productions this year.

BookPAL Leslie Ortega rides in a rodeo while animating Lewis Kimberly's book "Granny McFanny."

Leslie and Lewis Kimberly pose after an assembly at Robert Taylor Elementary in Henderson early in the school year.

BookPAL Harvey Blanc and Mayor Goodman rubs elbows at the Target Children's Book Festival in November.

BookPAL Lisa Illia reads aloud to a captive audience at Silver Mesa Community Center's Halloween Party.

BookPALS Bill Badger, Rose Heeter, and Cathy Hutchison antagonize at Ollie Detwiler in March. All animated Dr. Seuss's "The Butter Battle Book".

Bill Badger teams with Lynn Steinhurst, and Frank DeAngelo at Kathy Batterman Elementary for a reader's theatre performance in February.
