It was another fabulous year for PencilPALS! Volunteers all over the state wrote to children in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade this year. Perhaps the most rewarding part of this program is watching (and reading!) the students writing skills improve from the beginning of the year to the end. The PencilPALS program gives kids a creative outlet and helps them realize that writing isnt just another school requirement, that it can be FUN! And then theres the whole concept of getting mail, especially a lovely hand written and illustrated letter (a rarity these days)! Here are some pictures from our end of year celebration, where students got to meet their PencilPALS in person after writing all year long. What a joy it was! I urge those of you who are not yet PencilPALS to join our fold. Its such an easy, rewarding way to give back to your community and support childrens literacy.
