"Just to give you an update on my BookPALS adventures:
"First, it's a wonderful experience. I am reading to second grade kids (with about 8 different ethnicities) who I love! The teacher (Amy Larsen) thinks I'm great with the kids. They hug me each time I leave (except for the teacher : ) ). It's really great!
"I go every Thursday and read for 30 minutes, and the kids look forward to my coming. I read mostly from books that I had read to my now 11 year old. We have a goodly library. I bought a few books also. I leave the books that I read with the teacher to lend to the kids.
"I have the kids read some short poems from a Shel Silverstein book that I have, and they love it. In fact, they brought in their own poetry books on their own, that the want to read. So it's ending up that I read for about 20 minutes and about 3 or 4 of them read for about 10 minutes. Their enthusiasm is rewarding."
