Seattle BookPALS is honored to be awarded a $5000 literacy grant for Starbucks. This is a tremendous opportunity to grow the work of BookPALS in the area of Family Reading. The grant will provide for Two Family Reading Workshops designed to help parents and other adult family members interact with and read aloud to their children. Family Reading will give new books to each participating family to help build their home libraries and model strategies for reading at home. Our partner store is Columbia City Starbucks. Orca Elementary School has been selected for this project. BookPALS will facilitate the workshops and Starbucks partners will be involved in storytelling and other activites. One workshop is slated for May 26, and the other TBA . Read more about how Starbucks supports literacy efforts nationwide here.
