Read Across America was celebrated in the San Francisco branch with great enthusiasm on March 2, 2005, Dr. Seuss' birthday! In addition to our readers reading in their classrooms, the National Education Association provided certificates of participation for all the children "in the company of a book for half an hour." Those were duly distributed at schools throughout the Bay Area. Some of the special events included book drives, assemblies where Dr. Seuss was read or performed, and special guest readers. At Rooftop Elementary, our pilot school, author illustrator Ashley Wolff read in the library and classrooms, bringing her special brand of fun.
Variety Children's Charity once again donated funds to provide new books to the libraries of BookPALS schools, and Green Apple books donated their wares for the Family Homeless shelters.
All in all a wonderful partnership to promote literacy and the love of reading.
A reader today - a reader every day!
