BookPALS around the Bay Area celebrated Read Across America on Friday, March 2, 2007, Dr. Seuss' birthday! In addition to our readers reading in their classrooms, the National Education Association provided certificates of participation for all the children "in the company of a book for half an hour." Variety Children's Charity donated funds to provide new books for classrooms and libraries. Some of the special events included assemblies where Dr. Seuss was read or performed by special guest readers.

L-R: Ward Miller read to 5th, Willliam Hall read to 4th, Mary Dilts read to 1st and Marty Ganapoler read to 4th
BookPALS went to Rooftop School in SF on a fine winter day to read to the elementary school students. After a rousing version of Greeen Eggs and Ham performed (as much as read) by Mary Dilts and William Hall, I went to Ms Juhr's 4th grade class to read. The kids listened intently and participated in the reading by supplying descriptions of the pictures I showed them. But the real surprise was that after I was done reading, some of the students read stories they had written to me! And they were great! It inspired me to not just read to more kids, but to continue to write my own stories. - Written by Martin Ganapoler
